Ferienhaus Kargl is situated at 800 metres above sea-level in the idyllic mountain village of Gaal, on the edge of the Seckauer Alpen in Styria, Austria. Our historic house, originally a forge and one of the oldest in the village, accommodates families and small groups of up to 8 people.

Our house has been lovingly furnished and decorated and comprises a large, comfortable living/dining room seating 6-8, with corner sofa and LED TV; a fully-equipped kitchen seating 4-6; and a separate utility/toilet with washing machine. On the first floor, there is an inviting reading nook (the ‘Erker’) with books and DVDs to borrow in English and German; one twin bedroom; and a wonderfully spacious master bedroom, with super-king-size bed and its own seating area. The family bathroom (with bath and separate shower) is also on this floor. The top floor has a further bedroom with king-size bed and another twin bedroom both with views over the village, farmsteads and the mountains beyond.

 

There is ample space in the large, sunny, inviting gardens to enjoy the flower beds, shrubs, and herbs. In summer, there are berries to nibble on, various seating areas with sun-umbrellas, use of the barbecue, sun loungers, outdoor toys and games, including table-tennis table and a children’s sand-pit.

The village shop/baker/post-office and several cafés and inns ('Gasthäuser') are just a short walk away.

​

In winter, the award-winning ski-piste ‘Gaalerlifte’ is a few minutes’ drive away, with excellent childrens’ ski courses available, night-skiing and toboganning. In the summer months, the Gaaler 'Schlossteich' (the village swimming lake), tennis courts, beach-volley ball court and numerous beautiful walks and bike-trails can be enjoyed. There are plenty of family-run Gasthäuser and ‘mountain huts’ to recommend in the area, as well as The Red Bull Ring (15 minutes away), the renowned village of Seckau (with its world-famous Konditorei and Lebkuchen and its awe-inspiring Benedictine Abbey), Therme Fohnsdorf, and plenty more besides.
